Ambassador Sabrina Ugolini met Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Afghanistan, during a briefing to the diplomatic community operating from Doha regarding Afghanistan. The gathering provided valuable insights into the latest activities of the Special Rapporteur, which are helpful in guiding the complex engagement process with Kabul.
During his mission in Qatar, Special Rapporteur Bennett also visited our Embassy, sharing the symbolic significance of the “red bench” and visiting the ongoing exhibition “Faghan. Daughters of Afghanistan,” part of our participation in the United Nations Campaign “Orange the World.” On this occasion, we were also able to emphasize that combating all forms of violence against women and girls will be one of Italy’s priorities during its mandate as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term.
