FARNESINA RENEWS ITS SUPPORT TO MAIA, THE ITALIAN ARCHAEOLOGICAL MISSION IN AFGHANISTAN

IMG_2894

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI) has renewed for 2025 its support to MAIA, the Italian Archaeological Mission founded in Afghanistan in 1957 by Giuseppe Tucci, which  uncovered previously unknown aspects of the country cultural history and artistic richness.  Despite the complexity of the situation on the ground, ISMEO – the International Association for Mediterranean and Oriental Studies – continues its activities via remote working and digital training initiatives, aimed at the physical conservation of heritage and the promotion of archeology as a testimony of the past.

To honor this collaboration, our office recently inaugurated a permanent photographic exhibition dedicated to the MAIA, as a symbol and memory of Italy’s presence in Afghanistan.
