Afghanistan Coordination Group (ACG) Meeting, Tashkent, 7–9 October 2025

ACG gruppo

Participation of Ambassador Sabrina Ugolini and AICS Islamabad Director Francesco Zatta in the Afghanistan Coordination Group (ACG), a regular conference of donor countries for Afghanistan, co-organized by the United Nations, the World Bank, and the European Union, hosted on this occasion by Uzbekistan.

The meeting addressed several recent emergencies — the arrival of Afghan returnees from Iran and Pakistan, earthquakes, and drought — with particular focus on coordinating the response to basic needs.

Meetings with representatives of major Afghan humanitarian coordination organizations allowed for in-depth discussions on localization and the involvement of national civil society in cooperation efforts. Meanwhile, Uzbek institutional and business community representatives presented opportunities for trade and investment in areas of regional interest.

All parties reiterated the urgent need to lift restrictions on girls’ education and to promote the inclusion of women in Afghanistan’s social and public life.

On this occasion, the Italian Government’s support and solidarity with the Afghan population was reaffirmed. In 2025, this commitment translates into a total financial contribution of approximately 16.5 million euros, through both funding to major UN agencies operating in the country and support for cooperation projects implemented on the ground by NGOs and civil society organizations.
