On the occasion of International Women’s Day, we remembered the figure of Raffaella Iodice, former Chargée d’Affaires at the EU Delegation in Afghanistan, who tragically passed away in December 2024, by planting an olive tree: a symbolic gesture to commemorate an Italian woman and a colleague of the European institutions working in diplomacy and human rights.

The ceremony was attended by many colleagues from the diplomatic community relocated to Doha for Afghanistan, as well as the Head of the EU Delegation in Qatar, Ambassador Cristian Tudor.

As an Italian official of the EEAS, Raffaella Iodice is unanimously remembered as a person working for peace and solidarity, values that had inspired her recent EEAS mission in Afghanistan.

As Ambassador Ugolini recalled, “Raffaella’s passion for dialogue and solidarity left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her and working alongside her.”

The testimony of an olive tree in the Education City Nature Reserve in Doha is a tribute to her love for nature and to her example for the generations of young women entering the world of international cooperation.

A heartfelt thank you to Education City for their generous hospitality and to all those who participated in the initiative.
