Humanitarian corridors

In August 2021, through the “Aquila Omnia” operation organised by the Ministry of Defence, Italy evacuated about 5.000 people from Afghanistan, including 4,890 Afghan citizens.

In the framework of the “Italian plan for the Afghan population”, on 4th November 2021 Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation signed a Protocol Agreement with the Ministry of Defence, Italian NGOs (C.S. Egidio, CEI/Caritas, FCEI, Tavola Valdese, ARCI, INMP) and international organisations (UNHCR, OIM) envisaging the establishment of human corridors for 1,200 Afghan citizens living in vulnerable conditions in Iran and Pakistan. With an additional addendum, the scope of the agreement was then extended also to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Jordan and Turkey.
